Ingredients

  • 7 lb. large cucumbers
  • 2 c. white lime, dissolved in 2 gal. water
  • 4 1/2 lb. sugar (9 c.)
  • 1 tsp. whole cloves (tie in bag with mixed spices)
  • 1 tsp. mixed spices (tie in bag with cloves)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 qt. vinegar

Method

  • Slice cucumbers crosswise, about 4 or 5 slices per inch. Cover with white lime dissolved in 2 gallons of water.
  • Soak for 2 hours.
  • Rinse well.
  • Cover with clean, cold water.
  • Soak for 2 hours.
  • Drain, then add the sugar, cloves and mixed spices tied in bag, salt and vinegar.
  • Let stand overnight in this solution (use container you cook them in).
  • In the morning, put on stove and boil 35 minutes.
  • Put in jars and seal.
