Ingredients

  • Ingredients for the sauce:
  • 1/4 cup Olive oil
  • 1/4 cup minced garlic
  • 1 diced large onion
  • 1 diced green pepper
  • 1 diced red pepper
  • 1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 16 oz can whole tomatoes
  • 10 large bay leaves
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/1 pound Italian sausage
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 16 oz container ricotta cheese
  • Salt pepper to taste
  • Noodles and cheese:
  • 1 box lasagna noodles
  • I used barilla oven ready lasagna pasta no boiling needed
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup fontina cheese
  • 1/2 mixed parmesan and pecorino romana cheese
  • 1/4 cup gorgonzola cheese

Method

  • Directions:
  • Cook the ground beef and sausage in a large pot over medium heat; drain
  • Add onion, green and red peppers cook with meat for 3-5 minutes.
  • Add garlic cook for 2 minutes
  • Add crushed and whole tomatoes. While cooking break the whole tomatoes up into chunks.
  • Cook for 30 minutes on low heat
  • After 30 minutes add heavy cream and ricotta cheese
  • While this is cooking shred your cheese and mix them together
  • To assemble lasagna:
  • Ladle enough of the meat sauce into a 9x13 inch baking dish to cover the bottom in a thin layer
  • Cover with noodles about 3 there will be space between the noodles its ok
  • Ladle more sauce over the noodles top with cheese mixture and repeat the process until all noodles are gone
  • Once you are done top your lasagna with the rest of the cheese mixture
  • Place on a baking sheet in case of boil over and bake for 25 minutes
  • Remove the cover and bake another 10 minutes
  • Remove from oven and let it sit for 15 minutes before cutting
