Ingredients

  • Cake
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Chocolate Frosting
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped

Method

  • Combine sugar and flour in bowl.
  • Melt butter, shortening, water, and cocoa powder and brink to a boil.
  • Pour mixture over sugar and flour.
  • Stir well.
  • Add remaining ingrdeients and stir until smooth.
  • Pour into two greased and floured layer cake pans.
  • Bake at 325 for twenty-five to thirty minutes.
  • Cool thoroughly before frosting.
