Ingredients

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 5 egg yolks (save whites)
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 c. cake flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. coconut flakes

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar; add Crisco and cream well.
  • Add egg yolks and beat well.
  • Sift flour and soda together.
  • Add to mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
  • Stir in other ingredients except egg whites.
  • Beat egg whites until stiff and fold in mixture.
  • Bake in 3 (9-inch) pans at 350° for about 30 minutes or until center springs back when lightly touched.
