Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil, Plus Extra For Drizzling
  • 1 pound Sweet Italian Sausage Links
  • 1 loaf Crusty Italian Bread
  • 1 whole Medium Tomato Seeded And Diced
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese, Cubed
  • 1/2 cups Swiss Cheese, Cubed
  • 1/2 cups Romano (or Parmesan) Cheese, Shredded
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Diced
  • 1/2 cups Pizza Sauce, Optional
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste

Method

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat in a heavy skillet.
  • Add sausages and brown them on all sides.
  • Then add enough water into the skillet to just cover the sausages.
  • Then turn heat to medium-low and simmer, covered, until cooked through (30-40 minutes).
  • Preheat your ovens broiler.
  • Slice the bread in half lengthwise, and scoop out all but a 1/2 inch of the inside (save the insides for another recipe or to make breadcrumbs).
  • Drizzle each half lightly with olive oil, put the bread on a sheet pan and toast under the broiler until lightly browned.
  • Then remove it from the oven and set aside.
  • Turn the oven down to 400 F.
  • When the sausage is cooked, remove it from the skillet and dice it.
  • Put it into a bowl and add the tomato (seeded and diced), cheeses (cubed/shredded), garlic (diced), and if desired the pizza sauce.
  • Salt and pepper to taste, and fill each half of the bread with the mixture.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, or until bubbly.
