Ingredients
- 4 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1 to 1 1/2 c. buttermilk (may need more)
- 1 c. raisins
- 1 Tbsp. caraway seed
Method
- Mix flour with dry ingredients.
- Cut in butter.
- Add raisins and caraway seed.
- Make a well and add enough buttermilk to make soft dough.
- Knead on lightly floured board for about 5 minutes. Shape into round loaf.
- Place on lightly floured baking pan and cut cross on top.
- Bake at 400° for 50 minutes (should sound hollow when bottom is tapped).
