- 3/4 c. butter
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. white sugar
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. allspice
- 1 tsp. salt
- 4 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. nuts, chopped fine
Method
- Cream together butter, shortening and sugars.
- Add eggs; cream again.
- Sift dry ingredients together.
- Add to creamed mixture; blend.
- Stir in vanilla and nuts.
- This is a stiff dough.
- Mold into long squares or rectangles, or press into foil boxes or juice cans, to shape.
- Refrigerate overnight or freeze.
- Slice thin. Place 1/2 inch apart on a greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 450° for 7 to 8 minutes.
- Remove from cookie sheet quickly.
- Cool on a rack. Empty foil boxes or cans are good "shapers" and all cookies will be the same size.
- These cookies will keep indefinitely, if you hide them!
