Ingredients

  • 1 c. cake flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 1 3/4 c. hot water

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and 2 tablespoons cocoa into bowl.
  • Stir in milk and melted butter. Blend in nuts.
  • Spread in a 9 x 9-inch square pan.
  • Combine brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa and sprinkle over the top.
  • Pour hot water over entire batter.
  • Bake 45 minutes.
  • During baking, cake mixture rises to top and chocolate sauce settles to bottom.
  • Serve warm spooned into sauce dishes with whipped cream.
  • Makes 9 servings.
