Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. sugar, divided
  • 1 c. flour
  • 7 Tbsp. cocoa, divided
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/3 c. margarine, melted
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/4 c. hot water

Method

  • In medium bowl, combine 3/4 cup sugar, flour, 3 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder and salt.
  • Blend in milk, butter and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
  • Pour batter in square pan, 9 x 9 x 2-inch. In small bowl, combine remaining cocoa, 1/2 cup sugar and brown sugar.
  • Sprinkle mixture evenly over bottom.
  • Pour hot water over top; do not stir.
  • Bake 40 minutes or until center is almost set. Let stand 15 minutes.
  • Spoon sauce from bottom of pan over top of cake when serving.
