Ingredients
- 4 Tbsp. flour
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. powdered alum
- 1 pt. cold water
- 5 drops oil of cloves
Method
- Mix flour, sugar and alum together.
- Add a small amount of the pint of cold water and stir well to make a paste, to prevent lumps in the finished paste.
- Heat the remainder of the water to boiling point in a 2 qt. pan.
- While stirring, slowly add the paste to the boiling water.
- Cook until thick, stirring.
- Paste will be thicker when cold.
- Stir in oil of cloves.
- Pour into a small bowl and cover with one thickness of cloth to prevent crusting.
- When cold, put into sterilized jars with tight fitting lids.
