Ingredients

  • 4 c. Virginia Best self-rising flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 to 2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 c. plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 large box vanilla pudding
  • 1 c. raisins (optional)
  • 1 c. nuts (optional)

Method

  • Beat all ingredients together.
  • Grease and flour 2 loaf pans. Bake at 325° for 1 hour.
  • Makes 2 loaves and 3 starters.
  • Store starter at room temperature; do not seal and do not refrigerate.
