Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 c. soft bread crumbs
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 1/3 c. packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. dark raisins
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 c. coarsely crumbled gingersnaps

Method

  • Combine ground beef with egg, bread crumbs, 1/4 cup water, onion and salt in bowl; mix well.
  • Shape into 1-inch balls.
  • Bring 1 1/2 cups water to a boil in saucepan.
  • Stir in bouillon cubes, brown sugar, raisins, lemon juice and gingersnap crumbs.
  • Add meatballs.
  • Simmer 10 minutes.
  • Turn over meatballs and baste with sauce.
  • Simmer 10 minutes longer.
  • Makes 6 servings.
