Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. margarine
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder

Method

  • Mix margarine and sugar until fluffy.
  • Add salt, vanilla, egg, cream of tartar, soda and baking powder.
  • Mix well.
  • Add flour and mix well.
  • Refrigerate at least two hours.
  • Make small balls about the size of walnuts.
  • Flatten on cookie sheet with bottom of glass that has been dipped in sugar often.
  • Do not grease or oil cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 375° for 8 minutes.
  • Remove from cookie sheet at once.
  • Frost if desired.
  • Cookies freeze well in plastic bag.
