Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. sour milk
  • 1 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans
  • 1 c. candied cherries
  • 1 c. cut up dates
  • 1/2 tsp. soda

Method

  • Mix thoroughly the shortening, brown sugar and egg.
  • Stir in sour milk.
  • Sift together the flour, soda and salt and stir in. Mix pecans, cherries and dates.
  • Chill.
  • Heat oven to 400° (moderately hot).
  • Drop dough about 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Top each cookie with pecan half or cherry. Makes 4 dozen.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Chill before baking.
