Ingredients
- 8 egg whites
- 1/4 ___ plus 1/8 tsp. salt
- 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 2 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Method
- Heat oven to 400°.
- Beat egg whites and salt until foamy.
- Add cream of tartar and beat until stiff.
- Add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating after each addition.
- Add vanilla and beat for 10 minutes on medium speed.
- Spread in 9 x 15-inch pan (ungreased). Place in oven.
- Turn off heat.
- Leave oven closed overnight. Spread with sweetened whipped cream or Cool Whip topping.
- Top with sliced strawberries or other fruit.
