Ingredients
- 2 cakes compressed or granular yeast
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 5 1/2 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening (oil)
- 2 eggs
Method
- Heat milk to lukewarm.
- Add sugar. Dissolve yeast in milk and let stand 5 minutes.
- Add 3 cups of flour and beat vigorously. Add salt and eggs and beat well again.
- Add melted shortening or oil.
- When well blended, gradually add remaining flour.
- When stiff, turn onto floured board and knead.
- Return to oiled bowl to rise until double in bulk.
- Punch down and let rise again.
- When light, knead before shaping into desired types of rolls.
- Bake at 375° for 18 minutes.
