Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hot sausage
  • 6 slices bread, cubed
  • 1 c. sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 c. milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 tsp. salt (optional)
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard

Method

  • Brown sausage and drain well.
  • In a 9 x 13-inch casserole dish, layer bread, sausage and cheese.
  • Repeat, using the remaining bread, sausage and cheese.
  • Slightly beat the eggs (I use a wire eggbeater) in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add the salt, pepper and dry mustard.
  • (I sift the dry mustard as I add it; it is hard to blend.)
  • Beat to blend.
  • Add the milk.
  • Beat again and pour over the layers.
