Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/4 c. light corn syrup
  • 1 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 3/4 c. finely chopped blanched almonds
  • 1 1/4 c. grated milk chocolate (5 oz. bar)
  • 1 c. finely chopped walnuts

Method

  • In large heavy pan, cook over medium heat first 5 ingredients, stirring constantly until a teaspoon of syrup in cold water forms a brittle mass (285°).
  • At end of cooking time syrup will be thick and amber color.
  • Be careful not to scorch.
  • Keep heat low.
  • Pour at once into jelly roll pan (15 x 10 x 1-inch).
  • Spread evenly. Cool 5 minutes.
  • Then sprinkle with grated milk chocolate (5 ounce bar) in even layer.
  • When heat has melted chocolate spread, then pat and sprinkle with finely chopped walnuts in even layer.
  • Break into pieces.
  • Makes 2 pounds of crunch.
