Ingredients
- 9 slices white bread
- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 (13 oz.) can evaporated milk
- 2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/3 c. melted butter
- 4 egg whites
Method
- Break bread into small pieces.
- Place in mixing bowl with 1 cup sugar, evaporated milk, 2 cups milk, vanilla, egg yolks and melted butter.
- Mix well.
- Pour into 10 x 8 x 2-inch baking pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 325° for 45 minutes.
- Remove and make meringue.
- Beat egg whites with 1/4 cup sugar until stiff.
- Cover pudding with meringue and rebake for 3 or 4 minutes until meringue is golden.
- Serves 12.
