Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 14 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 2 cups flour
  • 12 teaspoon baking soda

Method

  • Sift salt, flour and baking soda together; set aside.
  • Cream butter and sugar until fluffy; add egg and beat.
  • Fold in flour mixture.
  • Knead well, adding more flour if necessary to make a stiff dough.
  • Shape into rolls and place in refrigerator to chill thoroughly.
  • Slice thin and bake in a preheated 400F oven for about 8 minutes or until golden.
  • Place cookies on a wire rack until cool.
