Ingredients

  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. evaporated milk
  • 1/2 c. soft butter
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1 bag caramels
  • 2 c. chocolate chips
  • pecans (optional)

Method

  • Mix cake mix, eggs, 1/2 cup milk, butter and water.
  • Pour 1/2 of batter into a greased 9 x 12-inch pan.
  • Bake 8 minutes in 350° oven.
  • While the cake is cooking, melt caramels with 1/4 to 1/2 cup evaporated milk.
  • Pour over partially cooked cake.
  • Add chocolate chips and pecans.
  • Pour rest of cake mix over filling.
  • Bake additional 16 to 18 minutes or until done.
  • Cool and cut into squares.
