Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (if desired)
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. oleo
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 16 oz. pkg. chocolate chips

Method

  • Sift flour, cocoa and salt.
  • Mix dates, boiling water and soda.
  • Cool.
  • Cream oleo; add sugar and beaten eggs.
  • Add flour mixture alternately with date mixture.
  • Blend well.
  • Add vanilla. Put mixture in a large 9 x 13-inch loaf pan, greased.
  • Sprinkle top with chips and nuts.
  • Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.
