Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. margarine, divided
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 8 oz. cooked ground beef, crumbled
  • 1 can green chilies, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. tomato paste
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • salt
  • dash of ground pepper
  • 3/4 c. four
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda

Method

  • In 8 ounce nonstick skillet, heat 1 teaspoon margarine over medium heat until bubbly and hot.
  • Add onion and garlic; saute about 3 minutes.
  • Add beef, chilies, tomato paste, chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt and ground pepper.
  • Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes.
  • Transfer mixture to a 9-inch pie plate and sprinkle with cheese.
