Ingredients

  • 6 slices day-old white bread
  • 2 c. cubed, cooked chicken or turkey
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped celery
  • 1/4 c. chopped green pepper
  • 1/2 c. mayonnaise
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 2 slightly beaten eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 c. shredded cheese

Method

  • Butter 2 slices of bread; cut in 1/2-inch cubes and set aside. Cut remaining bread in 1-inch cubes; place half of unbuttered cubes in bottom of 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish. Combine chicken, vegetables, mayonnaise and seasonings. Spoon over bread cubes. Sprinkle remaining unbuttered cubes over chicken mixture. Combine eggs and milk; pour over all. Cover and chill 1 hour or overnight.
