Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 4 1/2 to 4 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. unsifted flour
  • 1/2 c. pecans, chopped
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 (1 lb.) can pitted red sour cherries, drained

Method

  • Scald milk; add shortening, sugar and salt.
  • Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast to warm water and stir to dissolve.
  • Add 1 1/2 cups flour to milk mixture; beat well.
  • Beat in eggs and yeast.
  • Stir in enough of remaining flour to make a soft dough that leaves the sides of the bowl.
  • Knead until smooth and satiny on lightly floured board.
  • Place in greased bowl; invert to grease top. Cover and let rise until doubled (1 to 1 1/2 hours).
  • Punch down.
