- 3/4 c. milk
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 4 1/2 to 4 3/4 c. sifted flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. unsifted flour
- 1/2 c. pecans, chopped
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 (1 lb.) can pitted red sour cherries, drained
Method
- Scald milk; add shortening, sugar and salt.
- Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast to warm water and stir to dissolve.
- Add 1 1/2 cups flour to milk mixture; beat well.
- Beat in eggs and yeast.
- Stir in enough of remaining flour to make a soft dough that leaves the sides of the bowl.
- Knead until smooth and satiny on lightly floured board.
- Place in greased bowl; invert to grease top. Cover and let rise until doubled (1 to 1 1/2 hours).
- Punch down.
