Ingredients

  • 4 c. elbow macaroni
  • 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped onions
  • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 17 oz. evaporated milk
  • 1 c. American cheese, grated (4 oz.)
  • 1 c. sharp Cheddar cheese, grated (4 oz.)
  • 1 c. sliced hot dogs (3 to 4)
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp. bread crumbs

Method

  • Cook macaroni; drain (2 cups uncooked).
  • Saute onions in butter.
  • Stir in flour and salt; blend in evaporated milk.
  • Cook and stir over medium heat until thick and bubbly.
  • Add cheeses; stir until melted.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in macaroni and hot dog slices.
  • Place Cheesy Macaroni and Hot Dogs in a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  • Sprinkle with bread crumbs.
  • Bake at 350° for 40 minutes, or until heated through.
  • Makes 5 to 6 servings.
