Ingredients

  • 1 stick oleo
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 2 1/2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla flavoring
  • 3 c. flour (plain)
  • 1/2 tsp. soda

Method

  • Cream oleo,
  • Crisco and 2 cups sugar well.
  • Reserve 1/2 cup sugar for
  • egg
  • whites.
  • Add 1 egg yolk at a time, beating well after each.
  • Sift and measure flour;
  • add salt and baking powder. Add
  • soda
  • to
  • buttermilk and dissolve.
  • Begin adding flour mixture and add alternately with buttermilk, ending with flour. Add
  • flavoring.
  • Beat
  • egg whites and
  • 1/2 cup sugar until stiff peaks form.
  • Fold into cake mixture.
  • Bake in tube pan at 325° for 1 1/2 hours.
