Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 c. milk
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 1 Tbsp. margarine

Method

  • Blend in saucepan the first 4 ingredients.
  • Set aside.
  • In a small skillet, melt 1/4 cup sugar; cook and stir until a dark golden brown (use small amount of hot water to liquify).
  • Add the burnt caramel and milk to saucepan.
  • Mix until smooth.
  • Cook slowly until thickened.
  • Add last 3 ingredients; add slightly beaten egg yolks first and stir for a minute, then last 2 minutes. Whip whites into meringue.
  • Top with meringue.
