Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1 1/2 c. raisins
- 2 Tbsp. Spry or other shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 Tbsp. molasses
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/4 c. flour (don't sift)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. nuts
Method
- Put water and raisins in large pan; boil for 5 minutes (cool).
- While still warm, add all other ingredients.
- Mix together well.
- Add nuts last.
- Grease cans fully to top.
- Half fill them.
- Bake
- until well brown in 350° oven for 45 to 60 minutes.
- Cool for short time.
- While still warm, tip out of can on wax paper.
- (Use 3 or 4 No. 2 cans, vegetable or fruit.)
