Ingredients
- 1/4 lb. butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 oz. bottle red coloring
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 c. cake flour
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. sour or buttermilk
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
Method
- Cream butter, sugar and eggs.
- Make paste of coloring and cocoa.
- Add to creamed mixture.
- Mix salt with vanilla and milk. Add alternately with flour.
- Mix soda with vinegar; fold into mixture.
- Bake in two layers of 9-inch pans.
- Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
