Ingredients
- 2 1/4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1/2 c. plain yogurt or sour cream, at room temperature
- 1/3 c. hot water
- 1/2 c. cocoa
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla; add eggs and mix until smooth.
- Mix milk and yogurt together.
- Set aside.
- Mix all dry ingredients (except cocoa) together.
- Add dry ingredients alternately with milk/yogurt mixture.
- Mix cocoa with hot water to form a paste.
- Beat into batter.
- Pour into well-greased pan.
- Bake at 350° for 30 minutes for 2 layers; 45 to 50 minutes for tube pan.
- Frost with buttercream frosting.
