Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 c. catsup
  • 2 1/4 c. water
  • 2 tsp. instant beef broth
  • 1 1/4 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 dashes hot pepper sauce
  • 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. liquid smoke
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice

Method

  • Mix all of the above ingredients in a large saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • Cover; reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes.
  • (If not using immediately, cool somewhat, transfer to a container with cover and refrigerate.)
  • Use as a barbecue sauce for chicken or ribs.
  • Makes about 1 quart.
