Ingredients
- unbaked 9-inch double crust
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. grated orange peel
- 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 5 c. peeled, thinly sliced apples (about 4 large apples)
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
Method
- Combine sugar, cornstarch, orange peel, spice and salt in a small bowl.
- Set aside.
- Place apple slices in unbaked pie shell. Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples.
- Dot with butter.
- Moisten pastry edge with water; cover with top crust.
- Flute edge with fingers or fork.
- Cut slits or design in top crust for escape of steam.
- Bake in preheated 400° oven for 40 to 45 minutes.
