Ingredients

  • unbaked 9-inch double crust
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. grated orange peel
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 5 c. peeled, thinly sliced apples (about 4 large apples)
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine

Method

  • Combine sugar, cornstarch, orange peel, spice and salt in a small bowl.
  • Set aside.
  • Place apple slices in unbaked pie shell. Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples.
  • Dot with butter.
  • Moisten pastry edge with water; cover with top crust.
  • Flute edge with fingers or fork.
  • Cut slits or design in top crust for escape of steam.
  • Bake in preheated 400° oven for 40 to 45 minutes.
