Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. cubed beef
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 c. water
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 3 Tbsp. Heinz 57 sauce
  • 2 onions, quartered
  • 2 large potatoes, diced
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 1/2 c. celery, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp. plain flour
  • 3 Tbsp. water

Method

  • Brown meat with salt, sugar and pepper in shortening.
  • Add 2 cups water, beef bouillon cubes and cover.
  • Simmer 1 hour or until meat is tender.
  • Stir in Heinz 57 sauce and vegetables.
  • Cover and simmer an additional hour or until vegetables are tender.
  • Thicken with the flour and water.
