Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 6 apples, pared and cored and cut in fourths
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. milk

Method

  • Make a syrup of the sugar, water and cinnamon. Add the butter.
  • Sift the flour, salt and baking powder together.
  • Cut in the shortening.
  • Add the milk; stir until moistened.
  • Roll dough 1/4-inch
  • thick;
  • cut
  • into
  • 5-inch squares.
  • Arrange 4 pieces
  • of apple
  • on each piece of dough; sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Dot with butter.
  • Fold corners to center; pinch edges
  • together. Place,
  • inch
  • apart,
  • on a greased baking dish. Pour
  • over the
  • mixture
  • of sugar, water, cinnamon and butter (which
  • has been brought to a boil).
  • Bake at 375° for 35 minutes, or until apples are done.
