Ingredients

  • 5 c. self-rising flour
  • 6 tsp. sugar
  • 1 c. less 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 pkg. yeast, dissolved in 1/3 c. warm water
  • 2 c. buttermilk

Method

  • Sift flour and sugar together.
  • Cut in shortening.
  • Add yeast and buttermilk.
  • Stir all together and grease batter with Wesson oil (I grease bowls).
  • Cover and store in refrigerator until ready to use.
  • Knead on floured board and shape.
  • Let rise 1 hour and bake 15 minutes at 400°.
