Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 slightly beaten egg
  • 2 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 tsp. almond extract *

Method

  • Stir together flour, sugar, baking soda and salt.
  • Cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal.
  • Combine beaten egg, milk and almond extract.
  • Add to flour mixture.
  • Mix well.
  • Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
  • Place 2-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake in 325° oven for 16 to 18 minutes.
  • May place one almond half on each cookie before baking.
  • Makes 48.
