Ingredients
- 5 c. sifted flour
- 3 c. whole wheat flour
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cake household yeast
- 3/4 c. lukewarm water
- 1 tsp. white sugar
- 2 1/2 c. lukewarm water
Method
- Place flours
- and
- salt
- in
- a large bowl and mix well. Add yeast, dissolved in 3/4 cup lukewarm water; add sugar, mix well and blend in remaining water.
- Turn out on floured board. Knead until dough
- is
- smooth
- and shiny.
- Brush top and sides with shortening and
- place
- in greased bowl.
- Let rise until double in bulk,
- about
- 1 hour.
- Punch down;
- knead again and return to bowl.
- Let rise
- 1/2
- hour.
- Shape
- into
- 2 loaves. Place in well-greased
- pans and let rise until double in bulk. Bake 40 minutes or until well browned in 375° oven.
