Ingredients

  • 8 or possibly 9 inch pie:
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 c. & 2 tbsp. shortening
  • 4-5 tbsp. cool water
  • 10 inch pie:
  • 2 2/3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 7-8 tbsp. cool water

Method

  • Measure flour and salt into mixing bowl.
  • With pastry blender, using an up and down chopping motion, thoroughly cut in shortening till particles are size of tiny peas.
  • Sprinkle in water, 1 Tbsp.
  • at a time, mix lightly till all flour is moistened and dough almost cleans side of bowl.
  • Gather dough together with hands and make into ball - roll out.
