Ingredients

  • 2 tsp. olive oil
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 clove garlic
  • 1/4 c. reduced-fat sour cream
  • 1 slice firm white sandwich bread
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground turkey
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. dried sage
  • 1/2 tsp. Freshly ground black pepper

Method

  • In small skillet, heat oil over low heat.
  • Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring frequently about 7 minutes, or until tender.
  • Transfer to medium bowl and stir in sour cream and bread crumbs.
  • Add turkey, salt, sage, and pepper.
  • Shape mixture into patties.
  • Preheat broiler.
  • Broil patties on broiler pan 6 inches from heat 5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Chutney-Mustard Turkey Burgers: Prepare basic burger recipe through step 1, but add 1/4 cup minced mango chutney and 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard to burger mixture.
  • Proceed as for basic recipe.
  • Cheddar-Chili Turkey Burgers: Prepare basic burger recipe through step 1, but add 1/4 cup finely shredded Cheddar cheese and 2 finely minced pickled jalapenos to burger mixture.
  • Proceed as for basic recipe.
  • Apple and Almond Turkey Burgers: Prepare basic burger recipe through step 1, but add 1/4 cup shredded Granny Smith apple and 2 tablespoons minced toasted almonds to burger mixture.
  • Proceed as for basic recipe.
  • Spicy Carrot Turkey Burgers: Prepare basic burger recipe through step 1, but add 1/4 cup finely shredded carrot and 1/2 teaspoon red hot pepper sauce to burger mixture.
  • Proceed as for basic recipe.
