Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 c. flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • In a bowl, cream together butter, shortening, sugars, vanilla and egg until fluffy.
  • In separate bowl, sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.
  • Add flour mixture to creamed mixture.
  • Mix to moderately stiff dough. Using about a tablespoon of dough for each cookie, roll dough into small balls.
  • Dip in granulated sugar.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
  • Do not flatten!
