Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar

Method

  • Cream together the shortening, butter, white sugar and brown sugar.
  • Add egg and vanilla.
  • Sift flour, salt, soda and cream of tartar.
  • Add to creamed mixture.
  • Mix well.
  • Take 1 teaspoon of dough at a time and form into balls.
  • Dip top half in ice water, then in granulated sugar.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • With finger press down the center of each ball.
  • Bake at 425° for 8 minutes.
