Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 3/4 c. cooked rice
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 c. vinegar
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Method

  • Drop cabbage into boiling water.
  • Let stand until soft enough to separate leaves.
  • Drain and cool to handle.
  • Cut out stem and remove leaves. Combine beef, rice, eggs, onion and salt.
  • Put about a tablespoon of mixture in center of each cabbage leaf. Roll leaf around meat and close up ends. Can use toothpicks to hold together. Place rolls together in a large pan. Combine vinegar, sugar, tomato sauce and enough water to cover the cabbage rolls.
  • Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
