Ingredients

  • 1 (16 oz.) can whole tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 slice bread, crumbled
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp. cold water

Method

  • Place all ingredients, except butter, cornstarch and water, in a saucepan.
  • Cook over medium-low heat for 20 minutes.
  • Break up tomatoes with a spoon.
  • Stir occasionally.
  • Dissolve cornstarch in water and add to other ingredients.
  • Let mixture thicken.
  • Remove from heat and add butter.
  • Serve hot or cold.
