Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk, scalded
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 pkg. yeast (Red Star)
  • 1/2 c. water (lukewarm)
  • 5 to 6 c. flour, sifted
  • 3 eggs, beaten well

Method

  • Combine scalded milk, butter, sugar and salt.
  • Cool to lukewarm. Soften yeast in lukewarm water. Stir and combine with cool milk mixture. Add beaten eggs.
  • Add about half the flour. Beat well. Add enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  • Mix thoroughly.
  • Knead dough on floured board until smooth.
  • Place dough in warm greased bowl.
  • Brush with melted shortening. Cover and let rise 2 hours.
  • On floured board, shape into rolls as desired.
  • Place on a greased baking sheet.
  • Let rise 45 to 60 minutes. Bake at 375° for 15 to 20 minutes.
