Ingredients

  • 4 c. sugar
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 c. apple cider or juice
  • 2 Tbsp. cinnamon candies
  • 1 tsp. whole cloves
  • 8 Rome Beauty apples, cored and cut crosswise into 1/2-inch thick slices

Method

  • In large saucepan, mix sugar, water, apple cider, cinnamon candies and cloves; heat to boiling.
  • Reduce heat to low.
  • Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes.
  • Add apples slices; cook, turning occasionally, until apples are just tender, about 6 to 8 minutes. Spoon apples and liquid into jars; cover and refrigerate overnight for flavors to blend.
  • Yields 5 pints.
