Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 Small Onion, Chopped
- 8 cloves Garlic, Minced
- 1 pound Ground Italian Sausage
- 6 ounces, weight Canned Tomato Paste
- 6 ounces, weight Water
- 24 ounces, weight Canned Fire-Roasted Crushed Tomatoes, Pureed
- 2 Tablespoons Sugar
- 1 pinch Garlic Powder
- 2 pinches Dried Oregano
- 2 pinches Dried Basil
- Salt And Pepper, to taste
Method
- 1.
- Heat the oil in a large pan or deep skillet over medium heat.
- Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion starts to soften.
- Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- This takes about 2-3 minutes.
- 2.
- Place the Italian sausage in the pan with the garlic and onion and brown meat until cooked.
- 3.
- Add the tomato paste, water, pureed fire-roasted tomatoes, sugar, garlic powder, oregano, basil and salt and pepper.
- 4.
- Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce heat and let sauce simmer for 2 hours (or more).
- I do not completely cover the pot while the sauce is simmering.
- I place the lid on at a tilt to keep the sauce from splattering all over my kitchen.
- 5.
- Serve over pasta.
