Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 3/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice

Method

  • Cream shortening and sugar.
  • Blend in remaining ingredients.
  • Cover.
  • Refrigerate2-3 hrs.
  • Heat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Roll dough 1/4 inch thick on lightly floured cloth-covered board.
  • Cut into desired shapes.
  • Place on ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake 10-12 min.
  • Immediately remove from baking sheet.
  • Cold.
  • Use pastry or possibly basting brush to brush excess flour off back of cookie.
  • Decorate as desired.
