- 1 large Vidalia or sweet onion, diced
- 1 (15oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15oz) can diced tomatoes
- 1 can water (Use an empty tomato can. If you double the recipe start with one can water and add more if needed.)
- 1 large sweet potato, peeled and diced into 1" chunks
- 1 large dried chipotle pepper (usually in the produce section)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground sausage (if doubling the recipe)
- 1 1/2 tbsp pure cacao powder
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp cumin
- 2 tsp fresh sage, minced
- 1 tsp fresh oregano, minced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- salt, to taste
- Avocado (optional, for serving)
Method
- Brown beef and onion.
- Drain and place in slow cooker with all remaining ingredients.
- Cook on low all day, 8-10 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Serve topped with fresh avocado slices.
