Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. dark Karo syrup
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Method

  • Stir flour and sugar to mix.
  • Cut butter into flour and sugar with pastry blender until crumbly.
  • Reserve 1 cup for topping. Add Karo to boiling water.
  • Stir in baking soda and salt.
  • Pour into dry mix and stir until dry ingredients are moist.
  • Pour into 9-inch pie shell.
  • Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top.
  • Bake at 375° for 35 minutes.
